Project Art Works introduced Arts Award to the studio programme in 2017. Parachute Club creates a unique learning environment for young adults with autism and complex support needs who would otherwise struggle to find educational placements. The programme supports young artists and makers towards greater communication, self-expression and community integration. The five portfolios evidence the benefit of relevant and bespoke studio and learning environments. Mainstream education has presented many challenges and barriers for these young people, yet they have achieved strong bodies of work through personalised studio practice. Arts Awards is an ideal platform to share, champion and accredit these achievements.

We aim to continue to challenge perceptions of learning and artistic progression for young people with autism and complex support needs.

“These were very rewarding portfolios to moderate. The young people had clearly met difficult challenges during their Art Journey, but their achievement is evident. They have clearly been carefully guided and supported through the process. The range of evidence is presented is wide and effective in showing the progress thought their Art Journey. Particularly impressive in the Leadership Project which was ambitious and very well documented. Assessment was accurate throughout.” Moderator feedback, Arts Award, January 2019
