In June the Project Art Works team joined the Photoworks team in Brighton University to deliver the first Encounter workshops as part of the Explorers Project. The Encounters took place over two days and introduced the Photoworks staff to ways of working that can create real and lasting connections between people with complex needs and the cultural sector. An immersive environment was set up in the University studios. We were joined by participants and support staff from Downs View Link College, The Platform SE and The Scope Resources Centre, Brighton. The Photoworks team had the opportunity to work alongside participants, with the guidance of Project Art Works artists and the support staff, to explore and respond to the space in a creative way and develop methods of non-verbal communication.
“What an experience for all these people – they gained hugely from the experience. It meant so much to see people that often struggle in groups to be able to really enjoy and engage with this project. Such a joy!” Sarah Hamlett, Scope Brighton
