Richard Lewis (Strategic Commissioning Manager Learning Disability) and Laura Salter, (Project Manager, Operational Development Team, Adult Social Care) from East Sussex County Council will present on:
• How support packages are calculated
• How specialist support can meet need
• Structures for paying for support
Beverley Moores (Operations Manager, Children’s Disability Services) will also present on Children’s Services.
Topic 2: Adult Social Care Budget Consultation
On 6 February, East Sussex County Council agreed its budget for 2018/19 indicating £17 million of savings to be made this year, which includes a reduction of £10 million in the amount that will be spent on Adult Social Care and Health services. This reduction is met by increasing need in East Sussex. Individuals with learning disabilities living within the county are 25% above the national average and the figure is 50% higher in Hastings and Rother.
The proposed savings are subject to a 10-week consultation, which ends on Wednesday 25th April. We invite the Peer Support Network to discuss the consultation at the Summit and feed into a collective response to the consultation.
Martin Sanford-Hayles, Assistant Director, and Tamsin Peart, Strategic Commissioning Manager for Adult Social Care & Health will be presenting on the Council’s consultation.

As part of the programme we will be offering
- Art Action
We will be running a creative ‘Art Action’ workshop involving mark-making with different media from paint to drawing. This will open the Summit and everyone is welcome to take part. If you support someone who would like to carry on with the workshop, it will continue and run alongside the Summit. There will also be a quiet ‘break-out’ space.
- Video Streaming
A number of network members have told us they cannot make the Summit so we will be video streaming the meeting. Further details on how to watch this will be posted on our website prior to the Summit.
- Access and support needs
The main meeting space is on the first floor and accessible by lift. There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor and first floor. Please let us know of any access and communication support needs that would enable you to take part in this event. We are able to offer a limited number of on-site parking spaces.
