The first Hastings Comic Con is coming to the White Rock Theatre in Hastings this June and two artists from Project Art Works will be joining the programme exhibiting their work. Daniel and Dion, Artist Facilitator, will be there with The Assimilator and Lucy will be exhibiting various creations inspired by classic well known TV characters and personalities from the past including Dr Who, Dad’s Army and the Beatles.
About Daniel and The Assimilator
The Cybermen are legendary villains in the Doctor Who universe, known for their chilling appearance and relentless pursuit of “upgrading” other beings. They are humanoid cyborgs, originally human or alien, who have been subjected to cyber-conversion—a process that replaces their organic parts with mechanical components. This conversion strips away their emotions, leaving them cold, logical, and focused solely on efficiency.
Daniel started building The Assimilator in April 2023 and completed it in January 2025. He transformed a high-street mannequin into a cosmic weapon of conquest using a range of materials: cardboard, building scraps, recycled tins and clothes, rope, clay, ping-pong balls, insulation, and electronic lights—all lovingly shaped with Stanley blades, glued together using glue guns, and spray-painted. Daniel imagined this particular Cyberman model as a hybrid of Cybermen and Daleks, created during an invasion of the Dalek home world, Skaro.
Daniel is an artist from Project Art Works. Daniel regularly works with Dion, an artist facilitator, in the studio.
