During May we welcomed the Photoworks team to the first Awareness day of the Explorers Project. The session began with introductions and discussions about how best to create links to social care provisions in the Brighton and Hove area. Presentations included updates from the Project Art Works team on the Explorers project and its context within the current social and political climate. Artist Peter Hudson, who is currently working on our co-commission with Fabrica, spoke about his practice and how working alongside our participants has informed the development of the forthcoming exhibition. We were also joined by Dan Marshall, a specialist support worker who manages a single person’s provision. Dan introduced the principles of ‘Total Communication’ and how to facilitate choice for someone who is non-verbal.
During the afternoon, the Photoworks team took part in a collaborative action painting and had the opportunity to meet Project Art Works participants in the studio. We look forward to further Encounter workshops with the Photoworks team in June.
