Following an in-depth period scoping the social care sector in Camden, we delivered a series of workshops at Camden Arts Centre. Over three days, the collaboration involved 8 day centres and local services, reaching over 30 participants with complex needs from across the borough. Participants were accompanied by 20 support staff and 8 volunteers from the Camden Arts Centre staff team.
Utilising different spaces – the Drawing Studio and Ceramics Studio- we created open and immersive environments. The Drawing Studio became a light, mark-making zone – the floor and walls lined in heavy Fabriano – a “blank canvas” for participants. Over the three days they plotted themselves within the space using large black dots and a range of drawing implements to trace out connections between one and other. We transformed The Ceramics Studio into an enveloping dark space with huge cardboard panelled walls, spot lit by projections of trees moving in the breeze. This space gave participants the opportunity for focussed 1:1 connections with artists.
