From September 19, 2015 to October 10, 2015
For Art In Romney Marsh 2015 Project Art Works have created installations for two of the marsh churches.
No Church in the Wild is a film that tracks four young men with autism (and others who support them) as they travel through the Kent countryside. The protagonists finally arrive at St Thomas à Becket Church in Fairfield, a building that dates back to the 14th century and which is one of the last operational churches in England without electricity. The film explores the concepts of congregation and sanctuary through the investigations of the open countryside and the church.
The film will be shown within the Church of St Mary in the Marsh during the festival, whilst Way of the Walk, a new graphic work by Kate Adams, will be installed at St Thomas à Becket Church. This work describes both the location and the journey made within No Church in the Wild using an alternative language – that of map-making. It will be shown at St Thomas à Becket Church and provides a link between the two installations.
