Residential, which toured to Copenhagen Contemporary (CC) last April after its run at Baltic, closed on 9thMarch after a final week of workshops with Project Art Works.
Back in April 2024, the exhibition opened in Copenhagen with several workshops for both gallery staff and social care groups, co-delivered by Project Art Works and CC facilitators. Over the course of the exhibition, the gallery continued to build on these initial meetings to form enduring relationships with people with a range of support needs from their communities. The power in this collaboration came from the way in which CC teams embraced the opportunity to connect and develop new relationships and the generosity with which they invited people into the exhibition space and wider building.
The Project Art Works team visited the exhibition for the closing week and met many of the people who had taken part in the opening workshops, each with a deeper confidence and connection to the gallery now. CC colleagues have prepared a toolkit for their teams to consider access as a core part of their working practices, and other organisations are now looking to CC for guidance.
Huge gratitude to the CC team for taking this work on. We’re looking forward to seeing how it develops beyond our initial collaboration.
“Thank you for our collaboration and all your generosity in sharing your knowledge and practices. We have learned so much and are looking forward to bringing this with us moving forward. Importantly, we have developed wonderful relationships and exchanges with several groups and institutions (such as the art school that also participated in the activities on Wednesday), that will continue to impact our practices.”
